4.9-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northwest Turkey
the English section of webangah News agency cited Mehr News Agency quoting Al Arabiya, reporting a 4.9 magnitude earthquake in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir province, Turkey.
According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake struck at 12:35 p.m. local time with a magnitude of 4.9 in Sındırgı, Balıkesir.
The tremor occurred at a depth of 7.72 kilometers and was felt in İzmir and neighboring cities.
No reports on casualties or damage have been released so far.
The Turkish Interior Minister announced that emergency and rescue teams have been dispatched to the area.
A few days earlier, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the same region, causing some buildings to collapse and resulting in one fatality.
