4.9-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northwest Turkey

Turkish sources report ‌a strong earthquake in the northwest⁣ of the country.

the English section of webangah News agency cited Mehr News Agency quoting Al Arabiya, reporting a 4.9 magnitude earthquake in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir province, Turkey.

According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake struck at 12:35 p.m. local time with a magnitude of 4.9 in Sındırgı, Balıkesir.

The tremor occurred at a depth of⁤ 7.72 kilometers and was felt in İzmir and neighboring cities.

No reports​ on casualties or damage have been released so far.

The Turkish Interior Minister ⁣announced that emergency and rescue‌ teams have been dispatched to ⁣the area.

A few days earlier, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the same region, causing some buildings ‍to collapse and resulting‍ in one fatality.
