U.S. Treasury Secretary: Ready to Tighten Sanctions on Russia
The United States announced today, Sunday, that it is prepared to impose sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil to exert economic pressure, in cooperation wiht European nations, according to the English section of webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant told NBC News: ”We are ready to increase pressure on Russia but need our European partners to cooperate with us. Right now, we are in a race between how long the Ukrainian military can hold out and how long the Russian economy can endure.”
Bessant claimed: “If the United states and [the European Union] reach this stage and implement additional sanctions along with secondary tariffs against countries buying Russian oil, the Russian economy will face total collapse. this will bring President Putin to the negotiating table.”
