Maduro Orders Deployment of 25,000 Troops to Colombia Border
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and reuters, amid escalating U.S. threats of a possible attack on Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro announced the deployment of 25,000 troops along the Colombian border and the Caribbean coast.
Maduro saeid the troop deployment aims to strengthen rapid response operations and safeguard national security. He emphasized: “The main purpose of this mobilization is to defend our territorial integrity and national security while fighting for peace.”
Earlier, the United States had reported sending an additional 10 fighter jets to Puerto rico for operations targeting drug cartels. Reuters claimed that venezuela is significantly increasing its military presence in coastal states to combat drug trafficking.
Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino stated that President Maduro “has ordered more troops to be deployed in the Guajira region, Zulia state, and the Paraguaná Peninsula in Falcón state,” adding these areas serve as key drug trafficking routes.
Padrino also announced plans to boost military presence on nueva Esparta island as well as in Sucre and Delta Amacuro states. He noted that an initial force of 10,000 deployed along Zulia and Táchira states bordering Colombia will be increased to 25,000 soldiers.
“No one is coming here to do our work,” Padrino affirmed. “No one will set foot on this soil or carry out what we are tasked with doing.”
Tensions between Venezuela and the United States have escalated following U.S.President Donald Trump’s new approach toward what he calls combating drug trafficking.
