Trump Plans to Deploy Federal Forces to Chicago
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, US President Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth social on monday:
“six people have been killed in Chicago, and 12 others are critically injured. This means that over the past few weeks, nearly 50 people have died and hundreds have been wounded by gunfire. Many of them are expected to lose their lives.”
The president continued: “J.B. Pritzker,” (the governor of illinois, where Chicago is located) “recently stated that he does not wont federal assistance. Why? I want to help the people of Chicago-not harm them. Onyl criminals will be affected. We can act quickly and stop this madness. The city and state have failed to do so. Act now before it’s too late.”
Last Tuesday, Trump announced plans to deploy National Guard troops to combat crime in Chicago-a rare move toward militarizing America’s third-largest city that coudl spark legal battles with local officials.
Currently, more than 2,000 National Guard personnel from six Republican-led states are patrolling Washington D.C.
the end date for their mission remains unclear; however, the US military recently extended orders for the National Guard presence in D.C.through November 30.
Simultaneously occurring, thousands of American citizens protested yesterday against the National Guard’s presence in the nation’s capital, calling on President Trump to end these deployments.
The demonstration-named “We Are All D.C.”-featured chants denouncing Trump’s measures alongside signs reading slogans such as “Trump Must Go Now,” “Free D.C.,” and “Resist Oppression.”
