Tunisia Responds to Reports of Drone Attack on the «Samoud» Fleet
The Tunisian Ministry of Interior dismissed reports of a drone attack on a docked ship at the Port of Sidi Bou Said as unfounded, according to webangah News Agency citing Al Mayadeen via Mehr News Agency.
A spokesperson for Tunisia’s National Guard stated that forces, alongside the army, did not detect any drones or aerial activity over Sidi Bou Said port. Security and military units stationed within five miles of the port reported no sightings of drones.
He added that initial investigations indicate the incident was caused by an internal technical fault.
Last night, Samoud Fleet Management Committee announced that the vessel “Family” was reportedly targeted by a drone attack which caused a fire onboard. As an inevitable result, ships were instructed to avoid approaching Sidi Bou Said port.
Tiago Avila, a member of Samoud fleet committee, emphasized that several team members were aboard during the alleged attack but all have been rescued safely.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestine confirmed occurrence of this attack.
Reuters reported that the targeted ship was carrying members from the fleet’s steering committee; though, all passengers and crew remain unharmed.
