400 French Journalists Back Gaza Reporters in Letter to Macron
According to webangah News Agency’s English section, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, more than 400 French-speaking journalists published a statement on Monday, September 8, calling on Paris to lift the suspension preventing Gazan journalists who wish to leave. They demanded immediate international media access to developments on the ground in Gaza.
The message addressed to President Emmanuel Macron reads:
Mr. President,
Allow us to bring our Palestinian colleagues out of Gaza. We are over 400 French and Francophone journalists and media activists who have supported since last July the preparation of evacuation files and reception for our palestinian colleagues from Gaza, most of whom maintain close ties with France.
The letter states that some of these individuals work with major news agencies such as Le Monde, BFM TV network, Agence France-presse (AFP), and LCI network. These journalists risk their lives and-despite media censorship imposed by the Israeli regime that has turned Gaza into an actual “death zone” for this profession-ensure that the French public can access data and news.
The signatories add: We are deeply committed to handling our colleagues’ difficult preparations: collecting their identification documents; gathering work certificates from french or international media they have worked with; verifying working conditions; confirming residency status and financial support; and securing accommodations that preserve their dignity.
