NATO Responds to Drone Attack on Poland
According to the English service of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte declared that the alliance will defend every inch of NATO territory. He affirmed plans to strengthen military capabilities and confirmed NATO’s support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Rutte added that NATO stands with Poland and condemned Russia’s violation of Polish airspace.
The NATO chief addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin directly, urging him to stop the war.
On the early morning of Wednesday, September 9, Poland shot down several drones that entered its airspace during a large-scale Russian attack on western Ukraine. This NATO member country described the action as a “hostile act,” marking the first time during this conflict that an alliance member has engaged targets by firing. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that numerous Russian drones violated Polish airspace; those posing a direct threat were shot down.
A NATO spokesperson also confirmed that Mark Rutte is in contact with Polish officials, with the alliance consulting closely with Warsaw on this matter.
