UN Security Council Holds Emergency Meeting on Poland-Russia Tensions
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and Reuters, Poland’s Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that the UN Security Council will convene an emergency session at Warsaw’s request to examine this week’s violation of Polish airspace.
polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told a local radio station: “We are drawing the world’s attention to this unprecedented Russian drone attack on a member of the United Nations, the European Union, and NATO. I have previously attended Security Council meetings; I believe our arguments were convincing.”
Meanwhile, euronews reported that following Russian drone strikes on Polish territory earlier this week, the UN Security Council will meet urgently today at Poland’s behest.
In early hours of Wednesday, September 9th (Gregorian calendar), poland shot down several drones that entered its airspace amid Russia’s large-scale assault in western Ukraine.
Former prime Minister Donald Tusk claimed that numerous Russian drones violated Polish airspace and those posing direct threats were intercepted and destroyed.
