U.S. Delegation Holds Consultations with Belarus President
The U.S. Embassy spokesperson in Vilnius,Lithuania,announced on Thursday that Belarus has released 52 prisoners of diffrent nationalities. These individuals are now en route to Lithuania alongside the American delegation that negotiated thier freedom, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Reuters via Mehr News Agency.
Former President donald Trump had previously urged Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to free these detainees.
This group represents the largest number of prisoners pardoned by Lukashenko to date.
The U.S. Embassy spokesperson also reported that an American delegation led by John Coale,Deputy Assistant to President Trump,traveled from Minsk to Vilnius following negotiations and facilitated the release of these 52 individuals.
Separately, Belarus’s state news agency Belta stated that among those freed on Thursday were 14 foreign nationals from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, France, England, and Germany.
Belta further quoted Coale-a lawyer working on behalf of Trump-saying that the U.S. president has expressed a desire to reopen its embassy in Minsk.
