UNRWA reported that families living in Gaza face harsh conditions and a sharp rise in food insecurity.
The international agency emphasized the urgent need to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza to prevent a humanitarian disaster.
earlier, Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Gaza Strip’s Rescue and Relief Organization, said that intense Israeli attacks and deepening humanitarian crises have left over 50,000 residents-including children, women, and elderly-homeless within less than a week.
Bassal explained that the Israeli military has fully destroyed 12 high-rise residential buildings of more than seven floors each-destroying approximately 500 housing units-and displacing more than 10,000 people. In addition, over 120 other buildings under seven floors (averaging three stories) have been targeted, causing at least 7,200 additional people to become homeless.
He added that more than 500 buildings sustained partial damage during these attacks. around 30,000 people have lost their homes. More than 600 temporary shelter tents were also destroyed-leaving at least another 6,000 displaced people without shelter.
Bassal noted that occupying forces also completely demolished ten schools and five mosques.
Warning about the scale of the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza, he urged the United Nations and the international community to intervene immediately to halt occupation forces’ attacks and protect civilians. He also called on relief and humanitarian organizations to provide choice shelters along with essential supplies such as food, medicine, and other urgent necessities to assist displaced populations.
