United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and UAE Issue Joint Statement on Sudan

The United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, adn the United Arab Emirates have called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and ​a clear, extensive political solution​ in the country.

The‌ webangah News Agency,‌ citing Mehr News⁢ agency and Al‌ Jazeera, reports that the United States, Egypt, saudi Arabia, ‍and the‍ United ⁣Arab Emirates issued a joint statement describing Sudan’s territorial integrity and unity as essential for​ regional stability.

In their statement, these four ⁤countries⁣ demanded an immediate ceasefire⁤ in Sudan and the launch of an inclusive and obvious political transition process.

The statement called for a temporary three-month ceasefire to ​allow urgent humanitarian aid access throughout Sudan via secure corridors‍ to all regions of the country.

Fighting ⁢in Sudan began in April 2023,⁢ creating one of the most⁢ severe humanitarian crises in⁤ its recent history.In this ‍context, after days of fierce clashes with Rapid Support ⁢Forces (RSF), Sudan’s national army successfully‌ regained‍ full control over Barah city ​in North Kordofan state.

Recovering Barah holds⁢ significant strategic importance⁤ as ‍it⁤ lies near Omdurman and west of Khartoum, the capital city.

Since July 2024, RSF​ forces had occupied Barah and used⁣ it‌ as a base to ‍launch offensive ⁢operations against North Kordofan’s center‍ town of El-Obeid.

According to UN statistics,‍ approximately⁤ 25 million people-about half of Sudan’s population-face acute‍ hunger threats. This⁤ alarming figure highlights the grave crisis overshadowing countless innocent families⁤ across Sudan.
