Jolani: Israel Seeks to Partition Syria, but We Are Engaging in Dialogue
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Abu Muhammad al-Joulani, head of the terrorist faction governing Syria, claimed that Tel Aviv has a plan to fragment Syria. He also revealed that negotiations toward a security agreement with Israel are in progress.
Al-Joulani emphasized that Syria seeks complete calm in its relations with all countries worldwide.
It is noteworthy that al-Joulani’s regime has yet to respond to repeated incursions by Israel, which since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government has frequently targeted Syrian territory and violated its sovereignty.
As the collapse of Assad’s regime, al-Joulani’s faction has sent various signals indicating significant shifts in Syria’s political discourse and expressed readiness for an open policy aimed at normalizing relations with Israel.
During the first half of 2025, regional and European mediators initiated efforts to establish communication channels between Damascus and Tel aviv. Reports suggest that the new Syrian regime is prepared not only to sign a reconciliation agreement with Israel but also willing to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights-conditional on Western economic guarantees such as easing or lifting sanctions.
Al-Joulani added: “Advanced negotiations with Israel are underway to revive the 1974 agreement.”
The 1974 agreement was signed on May 31 between israel and Syria. It stipulated an end to hostilities and called for Israeli withdrawal from all encircled areas atop Mount Hermon occupied during war, along with approximately 25 kilometers surrounding Quneitra city and other minor occupied zones. After Assad’s fall, israel declared this pact nullified, resumed attacks on Syria, and reoccupied parts of its territory.
Al-Joulani’s claim: There is no permanent severance of ties with Iran
The leader asserted: “We do not claim there is an irreversible break in relations with Iran.”
Avoiding war with Moscow by refraining from attacking Hmeimim airbase
He stated that at the start of military operations they had multiple options including targeting hmeimim Airbase along with all aircraft stationed there but chose restraint “to prevent a full-scale war” with Russia.
He added: “Following Aleppo events, we coordinated closely with Moscow as we rebuilt our relationship. Russian interests will be preserved but within a new framework.”
