Mayor and 47 Officials Opposing Erdoğan Arrested in Istanbul
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Vsetnik website, Turkish authorities arrested a district mayor in Istanbul along with 47 other officials today on corruption charges.
Earlier, the Turkish prosecutor’s office issued arrest warrants for 48 suspects, including the mayor of bayrampaşa district in Istanbul, an area governed by opponents of President Erdoğan.
The Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office stated these arrests are connected to investigations into extortion, bribery, fraud, and tender rigging involving Bayrampaşa Municipality.
In recent months, more than a dozen municipal officials – including Ekrem İmamoğlu, Istanbul’s former mayor and one of Erdoğan’s political rivals – have been detained on similar accusations.
