London Reports on Foreign Ministers of European Troika Meeting with Araghchi
The new British Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, detailed her account of Wednesday’s consultations between the foreign ministers of the three European countries known as the European Troika-parties to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA)-and Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister.
Without mentioning the European parties’ failure to fulfill their commitments under the JCPOA toward Iran, Cooper claimed: “My European counterparts and I spoke with Iran’s foreign minister to reiterate our concerns about tehran’s nuclear program.”
Cooper added, “We are committed to diplomacy; though, Iran has not taken steps to prevent the reimposition of sanctions. We need concrete actions!”
It is noteworthy that Tehran has consistently stated its readiness for negotiations based on equality and mutual respect. However, in recent months-amid indirect talks between Tehran and Washington-the United States and israeli forces have violated international norms by attacking Iran.
