Vote on “Snapback” Resolution Draft in Security Council Scheduled for Tomorrow
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Barak Ravid, an American-Israeli journalist and contributor to outlets including CNN, wrote on the American website Axios that today a draft resolution concerning the snapback mechanism against Iran will be distributed among United Nations Security Council members.
A.Under this plan, according to Axios, “the draft resolution will be put to a vote among council members tomorrow. If it is indeed not approved-which is highly unlikely-the immediate reinstatement of sanctions against Iran will occur.”
Ravid added that UN Security Council sanctions targeting Iran are set to come back into effect at 8 p.m. local time on September 27.
The reporter’s enthusiasm regarding sanctions returning contrasts with Western sources’ expectations; they largely anticipate these sanctions will have psychological effects disrupting internal markets rather than considerably altering Iran’s current economic conditions, as experts believe thier impact will be limited.
Axios also noted that French President Emmanuel Macron stated in an interview with Israeli television today that the “snapback” against Iran would activate by late September.
Speaking with Israel’s Channel 12 News, Macron claimed efforts to reach an agreement between European powers and Iran had failed.
The UN Security council is expected to vote next week on reinstating UN sanctions against Iran-sanctions which could take effect again by September 27.
Macron, reportedly aiming to sow divisions among Iranian officials, asserted that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi “tried to propose a reasonable offer” for a deal with European powers but did not receive support from other members of his government.
Regarding these developments, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, referred to US and Israeli attacks during the 12-day imposed war on Iran.He said what occurred in June 2025 was unprecedented.
Ulyanov added that Israel and the United States conducted deliberate and premeditated targeted attacks against nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards intending total destruction of those sites.
The Russian diplomat noted that those responsible for these attacks claim they have the right to carry them out again if necessary and have threatened repeated assaults if required.
He called this action by Israel and America “the greatest blow ever dealt” to IAEA safeguard systems.
