Taliban Releases Two British Prisoners Through Doha Mediation
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Ava Afghanistan News Agency via Mehr News Agency, reported that Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson for the Taliban Foreign Ministry, stated today, Friday, September 19, that a British couple who had been detained by the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan for nearly eight months were released through Qatar’s mediation.
The Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that these two British nationals were freed after completing the judicial process in afghanistan for violating Afghan laws.
Peter Reynolds, 80, and his wife Barbie Reynolds, 76-who have lived in Afghanistan for nearly two decades-were arrested in Bamyan Province.
The couple had resided in Afghanistan for 18 years and managed an association called “Rebuild,” which works on education initiatives for Afghan children. They married in Kabul in 1970.
