Portugal Recognizes Palestine on Sunday
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency, Portugal plans to officially recognize the State of Palestine.
The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign affairs announced that the recognition will be declared on sunday.
This move follows hours after French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France would recognize an independent palestinian state at the United Nations on Monday.
Macron said, “I have again informed Mahmoud Abbas that france will recognize the Palestinian government on Monday in new York.”
He emphasized that recognizing Palestine is “part of a complete regional peace plan” aimed at addressing both Israeli and Palestinian demands for security and peace.
The French president also noted that Abbas remains committed to implementing necessary reforms to modernize Palestinian governance structures and tackle challenges related to stabilizing a future Palestinian state.
Macron added, ”We will continue supporting Palestinian institutions and ensure we fulfill our commitments to maintain regional security and stability.”
The French presidency issued a statement warning that “annexation of the West Bank is a clear red line.”
Agence France-Presse reported from the Élysée Palace that ten countries, including France, will recognize the Palestinian government during a conference in new York on Monday.
earlier,Luxembourg became another European country announcing its intention to recognize an independent State of Palestine.
