Human Rights Watch: Intensity of Explosions Could Trigger Earthquake in Gaza
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor stated in a report cited by webangah News Agency that the Israeli occupying army detonates an average of 17 car bombs daily in Gaza City, each generating seismic waves comparable to a 3.7 magnitude earthquake.
Over the past week, these explosions have involved approximately 120 car bombs carrying around 840 tons of explosives throughout residential neighborhoods in Gaza City.
The statement added that the blast from a single car bomb containing six to seven tons of TNT releases energy roughly equivalent to that of a natural earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale.
These detonations cause intense shaking, felt by buildings located several kilometers from the blast center, lasting for several seconds much like natural earthquakes.
The human rights organization described this extensive use of car bombs to demolish entire residential areas as an unprecedented crime in human history.
Furthermore, it emphasized that the devastating impact goes beyond material destruction; these bombings also serve as psychological warfare aimed at terrorizing civilians and forcibly displacing them from their homes.
The statement concluded by condemning the global community’s weakness and complicity among certain actors, which has enabled the Israeli military to continue its overt campaign of destroying Gaza City wiht impunity.
