Palestinian Authority: New Wave of Recognizing the State of Palestine Is Historic
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency, the Palestinian AuthorityS representative to the United Nations told Al Jazeera that this new surge in recognizing Palestine, particularly by the UK, is historic.
He added that the number of countries recognizing Palestine is steadily increasing.
The Palestinian Authority representative at the UN emphasized that practical punitive measures must be intensified to pressure Israeli occupiers.
The ongoing crimes committed by Israel in Gaza and growing international outrage over these acts have led many European countries-including Portugal, Canada, Britain, Australia, France, and Belgium-to recognize the State of Palestine.
In response to recognition from Britain, Canada, Australia and announcements by other countries considering recognition, Hamas issued a statement calling it an important step toward affirming the rights of Palestinians to their land and holy sites. The statement highlighted establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and acknowledged their right to sacrifice for freedom and return.
Hamas stressed that this meaningful move should be matched with concrete actions leading to an immediate end to war; stopping brutal genocide against Palestinians in Gaza; and resisting annexation efforts and Judaization projects in the West Bank and jerusalem.
In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed these recognitions by britain, Canada, and Australia. He claimed: “There will never be a State of Palestine,” adding that israel’s response will be revealed after his return from the United States.
