Indian Prime Minister Urges Citizens to Reject Foreign Products
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Prime minister Narendra Modi called on Indians to halt the use of foreign products amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States and to rely instead on domestically made goods.
In his Sunday speech ahead of a major consumer tax reduction policy set to take effect Monday, Modi said: “Many of the products we use daily are imported, but we are not aware of it. We must put those products aside.”
He also urged shopkeepers to focus on selling Indian-made goods, emphasizing that this would boost the country’s economic growth.
The prime minister’s remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 50 percent tariff on imported goods from india.
On Wednesday, August 26, Trump enacted this 50 percent tariff on moast Indian imports as part of his effort to penalize one of the world’s largest economies for purchasing discounted Russian oil.
Since taking office, Trump has substantially raised tariffs on imports from numerous countries, heightening tensions between Washington and those nations.
