Joulani: Negotiations with Israel May Make Progress
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera and Mehr News Agency, Ahmed al-Shara’, leader of the terrorist group Tahrir al-Sham and self-declared president of Syria, said at the Concordia Summit’s Democracy and Security session in New York: “After a period on the battlefield, we have come to the negotiation table.”
Al-Joulani continued by claiming that the battle for Syria’s liberation was carried out with minimal casualties thanks to their experience gained during their presence in Idlib. He stated: “Syria needs a new life. President Trump has lifted sanctions against it,and now congress must work towards permanently removing these sanctions. We are focusing on Syria’s economic progress and must lift these restrictions.”
He emphasized: “The fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime opened a new historical phase for the region. Today, Syria shares common interests with the West and the United States. Over sixty years, Syria has inherited many upheavals; we cannot solve all problems instantly. Restricting weapons exclusively to state authorities protects Syria from conflict and unrest.”
Regarding talks with Kurdish forces, he said: “We offered integration into the Syrian army for Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) while assuring Kurdish rights would be preserved. However, implementation of agreed terms was delayed. Peaceful solutions-especially agreements with SDF-must be reached quickly and enforced.”
On relations between new Syria and other countries,Al-Joulani added: “Syria pursues policies maintaining peaceful relations without threatening anyone. We are committed to holding accountable anyone targeting civilians because Syria is a lawful state. We strive to keep our country out of any conflicts-and it deserves time for reconstruction and development.”
The transitional head also addressed negotiations with Israel stating: “Israel has launched numerous attacks on us while continuing occupation of the Golan Heights and encroachment into our territory. Syria seeks to avoid war as it is rebuilding itself now; if ceasefire succeeds and Israel complies with agreed terms, negotiations might advance. israel must withdraw from Syrian land; security concerns can be resolved through diplomacy. Talks will reveal whether Israel’s concerns are genuine security issues or expansionist ambitions.”
