UK: Establishing an Independent State Is the Inherent Right of the Palestinian People
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Britain’s Foreign Secretary stressed that the creation of a Palestinian state is an inherent right of the Palestinian people.
Elliot Cooper told Al Jazeera in an exclusive interview, “A two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace in the region. We beleive in promoting a two-state solution,which is why we have officially recognized Palestine.”
He added, “What is happening in gaza is horrific. We need an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid delivered to the enclave. We continue cooperating with other countries to increase pressure aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza.”
The new British Foreign Secretary specified, “Due to concerns about violations of international law, we have placed restrictions on arms exports to Israel. We have sanctioned individuals within the Israeli government for incitement to violence and will apply similar measures against Hamas.”
His remarks come as Tobias Allwood, Minister for Middle East Affairs at Britain’s Cabinet Office, stated that a two-state solution is essential for lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians, adding that now is the time to officially recognize Palestine.
