27 Dead and Injured in Drone Attack on Busy Market in Western Sudan
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-nashra, a drone strike targeted a market in the city of El Fasher in western Sudan, killing and wounding 27 people.
A medical official at El Fasher hospital in North Darfur confirmed that 15 people were killed and 12 others injured in the attack.
Local sources reported that Rapid Support Forces carried out the drone strike on the crowded market in El Fasher.
The condition of three of the wounded is critical. Hospital staff and local resistance committees have confirmed the attack.
The resistance committees blamed Rapid Support Forces under General hemeti’s command for the assault. They stated that total casualties numbered 27, calling it a “massacre.”
El Fasher has been under siege since May 2024 and remains the last major city in Darfur controlled by government forces.
attacks have intensified across the region recently. On September 19, a drone strike on a mosque in El Fasher killed at least 75 civilians. UNICEF reported that 11 children died in that incident,describing it as “shocking and unacceptable.”
The United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that between September 17 and 19 alone,approximately 7,500 people were displaced around El Fasher. Since the civil war began, nearly 9.8 million Sudanese have been forced from their homes while another 4.3 million have sought refuge abroad.
