webangah News Agency, International Desk: The second day of the 80th UN General Assembly began with a speech by King Felipe VI of Spain. Today, Wednesday, leaders from 30 countries will deliver their remarks during morning and afternoon sessions (New York time) on regional and global matters.

The first day featured speeches by the UN secretary-General and the President of the 80th general Assembly,along with remarks from 34 world leaders expressing their positions on various issues.

King Felipe VI stated today at the assembly: “We will not stay silent in face of atrocities occurring in Gaza. We cannot ignore or close our eyes to schools and hospitals being destroyed or civilians suffering death and hunger there.” He called for an end to ongoing violence in gaza and urged Israel to cease human rights violations.
“Human dignity is non-negotiable,” he emphasized. “A world without standards is unknown territory-a regression to medieval times. Peace in Europe cannot be achieved without justice and accountability. The United Nations remains not only useful but essential.”
“Russia continues its unjust war in Ukraine,” he added,affirming Spain’s commitment to supporting peace efforts.
From Tuesday, September 23 through Saturday, September 27 (september 23-27), UN member states’ leaders are set to discuss major global challenges including peacebuilding, sustainable progress, human rights protection, gender equality, AI governance, combatting infectious diseases and mental health disorders as well as climate change impacts.
The assembly will pause on Sunday September 28 before concluding Monday September 29; this week-long event commemorates eight decades since the UN’s founding under the theme “Together for a Better World: Eighty Years On for Peace, Development & Human Rights.”
This international gathering also hosts high-level side events alongside hundreds of bilateral meetings throughout its course.
A total of representatives from all 193 UN member states, observers such as Vatican City & Palestinian Authority governments plus officials from European Union institutions will participate across sessions this week.
