Macron Meets with Iranian President
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron posted on social media platform X today, Wednesday, about his meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian during the 80th UN General Assembly. Without mentioning Iran’s principle of separation of powers, Macron demanded the immediate release of French nationals detained in Tehran: “First and foremost, I reiterated my request; Cécile Kohler, Jacques Paris and Lennart Montreuil-prisoners held in Iran-must be freed promptly!”
Continuing without reference to the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, Macron asserted: “Our position is clear: Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons. Given Iran’s failure to meet its nuclear commitments, together with Germany and britain, we decided to trigger the snapback mechanism and reimpose sanctions on Iran. I again outlined our demands for the Iranian president: full access for International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors in Iran; transparency concerning enriched material stockpiles; an immediate resumption of negotiations. Reaching an agreement remains possible. Only a few hours remain. It depends on Iran responding to the conditions we have set-for regional security and global stability.”
Thes bold accusations from President Macron against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and claims regarding Tehran’s nuclear commitments arise while-since America unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 Joint Extensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)-the three European signatories involved have consistently failed to uphold their obligations toward that deal. Moreover, amid recent indirect talks between Tehran and Washington over past months, Iran has faced violations by America contrary to all international laws.
