Spain Decides to Deploy Ship to Protect the “Samud” Fleet
According to the English section of webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency,Spain declared it will send a naval operational ship from Cartagena to the eastern Mediterranean. The mission aims to safeguard and assist the Sumud convoy en route to Gaza.
This deployment was confirmed following intensified attacks on humanitarian boats, including 14 drone strikes overnight that damaged several vessels.
Margarita Robles, Spain’s Defense Minister, described the mission as a “legal and moral commitment,” emphasizing that humanitarian crews cannot be left defenseless against repeated assaults in international waters.
Spain’s Prime Minister also tweeted about sending the ship, stating that his country wants international law upheld and its citizens’ right to safe navigation in the Mediterranean respected.
He added that tomorrow an equipped BAM-class maritime operations vessel will depart from Cartagena with all necessary facilities. It will assist the fleet if needed and conduct any rescue operations.
The global Sumud convoy, comprising more than 50 ships aiming to aid Gaza’s people and break its blockade, set sail from Barcelona in early August. Additional vessels have since joined from various parts of the world.
On Monday night alone, nine boats from the Sumud fleet were targeted by 12 drone attacks launched by Israeli forces.
