Sarkozy Sentenced to Five Years in Prison
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Mayadeen, a French court sentenced former President Nicolas Sarkozy to five years in prison over allegations of receiving financial support from Libya for his election campaign.
Media sources report that the Paris criminal court convicted Sarkozy of “criminal conspiracy,” but acquitted him of charges related to bribery and illegal campaign financing.
The ruling is not yet final, and the 70-year-old sarkozy has the right to appeal. He has consistently denied these allegations.
The accusations pertain to illegal fund transfers from Muammar gaddafi, then leader of Libya, to Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential campaign.
