Sarkozy Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

Former French President Nicolas​ Sarkozy has⁤ been sentenced too five years in ‍prison in connection with receiving campaign funding from Libya.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing ⁢Mehr⁣ News‌ Agency and Al Mayadeen, a French court sentenced former ⁣President Nicolas Sarkozy to five ‍years in prison over allegations of receiving financial ​support from Libya for his election‍ campaign.

Media sources report that ⁢the Paris⁣ criminal court convicted Sarkozy of “criminal conspiracy,” but acquitted him of charges related ⁤to bribery and illegal campaign financing.

The ruling is not yet final, and the 70-year-old sarkozy has the right to⁢ appeal. He has consistently denied these allegations.

The accusations pertain to illegal fund transfers from Muammar gaddafi, then ⁢leader of Libya, to Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential campaign.
