Resistance Weapons Will Remain as Long as Israeli Occupation Continues
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas issued a statement responding to Mahmoud Abbas’s recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly, in which he called for disarming Palestinian resistance forces.
The statement said, “Resistance is a national and moral duty. Its legitimacy comes from the steadfast Palestinian people for whom resisting occupation is a legitimate right under international law.”
Hamas condemned Abbas’s alignment with what it called “the false Zionist narrative,” accusing him of blaming resistance groups for targeting civilians.
It added, “All attempts to impose guardianship over our people and thier will will fail.”
the movement rejected Abbas’s claim that Hamas would play no role in any government formation as a violation of Palestinians’ inherent right to self-determination and unacceptable submission to foreign dictates and schemes.
Further, Hamas declared, “Provided that occupation remains rooted in our land and at the core of our people’s existence, disarming resistance weapons is impossible.”
The group strongly condemned Abbas’s call to hand over resistance arms, especially amid brutal warfare devastating Gaza and the West Bank population.
Concluding its statement, Hamas emphasized that “The only way to safeguard our national cause and counter fascist settler-colonial plans is through national unity and consensus on a comprehensive struggle program against the israeli occupying regime – aiming to achieve Palestinian freedom, return, and statehood with Jerusalem as its capital.”
