webangah News Agency, International Desk: Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, known as the Master of Resistance, served as Hezbollah’s third Secretary-General and was one of its founders. Under his leadership from 1992 to 2024, Hezbollah grew into a regional power.Key achievements during his tenure include the liberation of southern Lebanon from Israeli occupation in 2000, the release of Lebanese prisoners and recovery of resistance fighters’ bodies from Israel in 2004, and victory in the 33-day war against Israel in 2006. His repeated successes against Israel made him one of the Arab world’s most popular and powerful leaders.
Nasrallah was born on August 31, either in 1960 or 1962, in a neighborhood east of Beirut. He began his religious studies first in Lebanon and then at seminaries in Najaf. Following pressure from Iraq’s Baath regime, he returned to Lebanon before traveling to Iran where he studied Islamic revolutionary thought under Imam Khomeini’s influence while living in Qom. During this period he learned Persian and became Khomeini’s representative to Lebanon.
Leadership Path
From 1975 to 1982, Nasrallah was a member of Amal Movement-a major Shia political group-but parted ways with them alongside other activist clerics to found Hezbollah following Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 1982. The empowerment of Shia Muslims began with Imam musa Sadr’s initiatives and intensified through establishing Hezbollah under Nasrallah’s leadership.
He became Secretary-General after the assassination of Sayyed Abbas Mousavi on February16,1992,and held this position until his martyrdomin2024.Nasrallah maintained extensive relationsandheld meetingswith leadersof theresistanceaxis throughouthisdurationas leader.
