Tel Aviv’s Last-Minute Demand Halts Talks with Syria
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Maan, four informed sources told Reuters that security talks between Syria and the Israeli regime stalled due to Tel Aviv’s demand to establish a so-called humanitarian corridor into Sweida province in southern Syria.
This request emerged at the last moment from the Israeli side. The deadlock threatens to prevent the signing of a security agreement between Damascus and Tel Aviv.
The negotiations, which had gained momentum over recent weeks, aimed to create a weapons-free zone in southern Syria, including Sweida province, as part of efforts to guarantee Israel’s security.
Syria regards the establishment of this corridor in its south as a violation of its sovereignty by Israel. It appears Tel Aviv’s demand seeks to keep open access routes into Syria for ongoing incursions against the country.
