Syrian Judge Issues Arrest Warrant for Bashar al-Assad in Absentia
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm, a Syrian judge issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Bashar al-Assad, the country’s former president, based on alleged accusations tied to the 2011 incidents in Daraa.
Judge Toufiq Al-Aliwi reportedly issued the warrant against Bashar al-Assad on charges including premeditated murder, torture resulting in death, and deprivation of liberty.
The judge claimed that this legal ruling paves the way for issuing an Interpol arrest notice and pursuing the case internationally.
Al-Aliwi stated that this action stems from complaints filed by families of victims from the events that took place on November 21, 2011, in Syria’s southern province of Daraa.
