UN Human Rights Council Must Recognize Israel’s Genocide in Gaza
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing information from Palestine Media Center via Mehr News Agency, Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Watch called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to end it’s delay adn officially acknowledge that what has been happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza for nearly two years constitutes an organized genocide carried out by the Israeli regime.
in a joint statement with the International Institute for Law and Development at the 60th session of the Human Rights Council, this organization emphasized that Israel is attempting to conceal the truth and erase evidence. This includes targeting civil society organizations that document violations, dismantling accountability mechanisms at various levels, and systematically killing journalists and United Nations staff.
Lima Bostami,head of legal affairs at Euro-Mediterranean human Rights Watch,said in her speech: “I speak of genocide-the very word you avoid naming. if this is not genocide,then what is it? Should international law be rewritten again just to exonerate Israel?”
she added: “In this genocide,israel destroys facts and evidence,dismantles accountability mechanisms,bans and discredits civil society organizations while cutting their funding sources,and assassinates journalists as well as UN personnel.”
Bostami addressed representatives at the Human Rights Council: “You knew your weapons would strike civilians. You were aware that your trade deals, diplomacy, and silence-justified under security and civilization-closed your eyes to today’s crimes. Your lands became corridors for these atrocities when international law required you to act as barriers against them.” She also stated: “Perhaps a few here genuinely defend human rights; but others must be asked if what you have done was anything but normalization of genocide.”
Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Watch called on conscientious individuals and organizations worldwide to continue applying pressure-to push for arms embargoes against Israel; halt commercial relations and investments; support accountability measures; and vote for justice whenever possible.
