EU Confirms Compliance with UN Sanctions on Iran
Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, announced on the social media platform X that Brussels will adhere to the renewed United Nations sanctions imposed on Iran. this report is based on English coverage from webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency.
Kallas wrote: “The UN reimposed sanctions on Iran early Sunday over its nuclear program. The EU will comply.”
she added, “This should not mark the end of diplomacy with Iran. A lasting solution to Iran’s nuclear issue can only be achieved through negotiations.”
The United Kingdom, Germany, and France-known as the European “troika”-accused the Islamic Republic of violating the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA).They raised unfounded claims without acknowledging America’s unilateral withdrawal from the deal in 2018 or violations by European parties themselves. Aligning with Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran, they initiated a 30-day process to activate the snapback mechanism.
Under U.S. pressure, on Friday, the UN Security Council rejected a Russian and Chinese draft resolution aimed at extending Resolution 2231- which supports the JCPOA-with four votes in favor, two abstentions, and nine against. With this rejection, international sanctions against iran were officially reinstated starting today.
