UK Foreign Secretary: We Will Continue Pursuing Diplomatic Channels with Iran
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Yvette Cooper, the UK Foreign Secretary, reiterated her country’s opposed stance against Tehran on Sunday.
Ignoring the recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran during ongoing indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, Cooper claimed on her social media account X that Iran had provided no guarantees regarding its nuclear programme and had not participated in the talks.
cooper asserted that this is why her country activated snapback sanctions. She added that their countries would continue to follow diplomatic paths and negotiations. “The reimposition of UN sanctions does not mark the end of diplomacy,” she said.
the UK,Germany, and France-known as the European Troika-accused Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA),making unfounded allegations without referencing Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from this accord in 2018 or violations by European parties. They initiated a 30-day process to activate the snapback mechanism.
The UN Security Council, under pressure from the US on Friday, rejected a draft resolution by Russia and China aimed at extending Resolution 2231-which supported the nuclear deal with Iran-with four votes in favor, two abstentions, and nine against.
With this rejection, international sanctions against Iran were officially reinstated starting today despite questions about their legality.
