Deadly Storm in Vietnam Leaves 13 Dead and Missing
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, at least one person has died and twelve are missing following the arrival of Typhoon Boaluy in northern central Vietnam early Monday.
The destructive storm hit Quang Nam Province with winds reaching 117 kilometers per hour, damaging homes and power grids.
Vietnam’s National Meteorological Service reported that before making landfall, Boaluy spent several hours over the coastal area, generating waves as high as eight meters.
Officials said twelve fishermen went missing after four fishing boats sank in Quang Tri Province.
The Vietnamese government evacuated more than 28,500 people ahead of the storm. Additionally, closures of four airports in central provinces led to hundreds of canceled or delayed flights.
Authorities have warned about risks of flooding and severe landslides. The meteorological service forecasts rainfall totals up to 500 millimeters across parts of the country between Sunday and Tuesday.
