EU Announces Reimposition of Sanctions on Iran
The European Union presidency announced in a statement that, following the anti-Iran measures imposed by the United Nations under pressure from the United States and the European troika,it has reinstated sanctions against Iran.
Repeating claims regarding Iran’s non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA), the EU declared that sanctions have been reinstated against Tehran.
The statement did not mention Washington’s unilateral and illegal withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018 or similar anti-Iran moves by the European troika aligned with Washington’s ”maximum pressure” campaign. It also claimed that ”the door too diplomatic negotiations remains open.”
the EU added that these sanctions include freezing assets of Iran’s central bank and othre Iranian banks, and also travel bans on certain Iranian officials.
According to Brussels, the EU has also banned purchases and transport of Iranian crude oil, along with sales or provision of gold and other maritime equipment. Additionally, it will prevent Iranian cargo aircraft from landing at EU airports and reimpose prohibitions on maintenance of aircraft and ships carrying sanctioned goods or materials.
Following hostile actions by Germany, France, and the UK triggering a 30-day countdown to activate the “snapback” mechanism, yesterday the United Nations restored iran’s arms embargo along with related sanctions citing its nuclear program. London, Paris, and Berlin had initiated this process at the UN Security Council based on unsubstantiated claims of Tehran violating its nuclear commitments.
