UNICEF: One in Five Newborns in Gaza Is Born with Low Birth Weight
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the Palestine Data center, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stated that due to the blockade and Israel’s deliberate starvation policies against Gaza’s population, one out of every five newborns in the region is either premature or underweight at birth.
UNICEF emphasized on the social media platform X that it has recently delivered essential medical supplies to hospitals and health centers in Gaza City. However, these aid packages are insufficient. Palestinian children still urgently require vital nutrition and healthcare services.
The organization called for an urgent and large-scale humanitarian response targeting children, infants, and Palestinian families. UNICEF reiterated the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. According to UNICEF, gaza has been under a severe blockade with systematic starvation policies imposed by israel over the past two years, resulting in a deep humanitarian crisis affecting children’s health and survival.
