According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Ma’a, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressed that education for children in Gaza must be included in any agreement to end Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement posted on X, he said: “Children’s education should be part of any deal to end the war in Gaza. the proposed plan must offer hope to more than 660,000 children who have been deprived of schooling for a third consecutive year.”
Lazzarini added that restoring access to education should be a collective priority aimed at fostering peace and sustainable stability.
He noted that thanks to UNRWA’s exceptional staff, the agency possesses the experience, infrastructure, and expertise needed to support a gradual return to formal schooling for children in Gaza if a ceasefire is achieved.
Lazzarini further explained that before the conflict began, UNRWA provided education through its schools (United Nations schools) to more than 300,000 children.
