Trump Issues Unprecedented Security Directive on Qatar

The New York Times reports that the U.S. president has signed an executive order guaranteeing qatar’s security.

The ‌English section of webangah News Agency, ⁣citing Mehr News Agency, reported that according to the New York Times, U.S.President Donald Trump signed an executive order committing to guarantee Qatar’s security in the event of ⁢an attack on ‌the country.

The report states that this order was signed on September 29,‍ just three weeks after Israeli airstrikes targeted Hamas officials’ residences in Doha. These strikes sparked outrage‍ among Qatari and american officials ⁢and raised questions about the ⁤strength ‍of U.S. security guarantees for ⁣Doha.

the New ⁢York ⁤Times noted that this executive order appears intended to ⁣reassure Qatar ⁢against ‍similar future attacks. The ⁢document specifies that any assault on Qatar will be viewed as‍ a threat to U.S. peace and ⁢security.

Qatar hosts the largest U.S. military base in the middle East and regards Washington as its primary security guarantor. This made Tel⁣ Aviv’s recent strike on Doha⁢ notably unexpected for ‍Qatari authorities.

The order states that if Qatar is attacked, ⁣the United States must⁢ take⁢ “all lawful and appropriate measures-including diplomatic, economic, and if necessary military actions-to⁢ defend both American interests and those of qatar.”
