Fohn Derline: We Must Increase Pressure on Moscow; Proposes Compensation Loan to Kyiv
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Wednesday via her social media platform X that we are living in challenging times. the Russian war against Ukraine continues. She emphasized that Russia is testing our resolve and urged for a sense of urgency in addressing these challenges.
Von der Leyen added that at today’s European Union Council meeting in Copenhagen, two main topics will be discussed: defense and the situation in Ukraine. Regarding Ukraine, she said if there is consensus that Kyiv represents the frontline of our defense, then military support must be intensified.
She announced a €4 billion aid package for Ukraine today,including $2 million allocated specifically for drones. Von der Leyen stressed the need to increase pressure on Russia, explaining her proposal for a compensation loan to Ukraine backed by frozen Russian assets. “We are not confiscating Russian assets; rather, we will lend them to Ukraine,” she said. If Russia agrees to pay reparations, Ukraine will repay the loan.
