US Representative Defends Veto of Gaza Ceasefire at UN
The US representative at the United Nations General Assembly meeting on Middle East developments, focused on Gaza and Palestine, stated: “We vetoed the ceasefire resolution in Gaza because it did not condemn Hamas or grant Israel the right to self-defense,” according to webangah news Agency’s English service citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera.
In an attempt to justify US backing of Israeli operations against the Palestinian people, while ignoring repeated violations of ceasefires by Tel Aviv, he alleged that Hamas is responsible for initiating and prolonging the war in Gaza. He claimed Israel has repeatedly agreed to ceasefire conditions.
Referring to President Trump’s plan regarding Gaza-which Hamas and other Palestinian groups say aims to support Israel while depriving Palestinians of their legitimate rights-the representative asserted: “Hamas must accept President Trump’s plan because it would allow Gaza to begin a peaceful and prosperous future without Hamas.”
