Libyan Citizens Protest Israel’s Attack on the “Samoud” Fleet
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Russia Today, Al-Jazeera Square in Tripoli, Libya’s capital, witnessed large demonstrations on Thursday condemning Israel’s seizure of ships from the global “Samood” (Resistance) fleet and the arrest of activists onboard.
During these protests, Libyan citizens raised Palestinian and Libyan flags and held placards calling for an end to the blockade imposed on Gaza Strip. They expressed solidarity with detained activists from the Samood fleet.
The demonstrators demanded the immediate release of all 17 detainees from Libya’s ship “Omar Al-Mukhtar,” including 11 Libyan activists.
They urged international bodies and human rights organizations to intervene promptly to ensure security and facilitate returning samood fleet activists to their country.
On Thursday morning, Israel seized Libya’s ship “Omar Al-Mukhtar,” part of a global effort by the Samood fleet attempting to break Gaza’s blockade.
The detainees have as been transferred to a port within occupied Palestine.
On Wednesday, hundreds of Israeli soldiers from multiple units took part in an operation targeting Samood fleet ships. The israeli forces attacked 41 vessels carrying over 400 passengers en route to Gaza. The operation lasted 12 hours. Israeli police reported taking custody of 250 activists and transferring them to detention facilities.
