Hamas Senior Officials Outline Response to Trump Plan
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency, Mousa Abu Marzouk, a senior leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), spoke with Al Jazeera Qatar about Hamas’s stance on the proposed plan to end the Gaza conflict and clarified their priorities in these negotiations.
Priority: Stopping the Killing
Mousa Abu Marzouk explained Hamas’s view of the proposal: “Our main priority is to stop the war and killing. From this viewpoint, we have viewed this plan positively.”
He added that aspects of Trump’s plan directly related to Hamas had been reviewed positively by their leadership.
Abu Marzouk emphasized that implementing the plan requires detailed understanding and agreement; “This proposal cannot be implemented without negotiation.”
he also stated: “We are willing to negotiate on all issues concerning our movement and weapons.”
Rejecting 72-Hour Deadline for Prisoner Exchange
the leader dismissed part of the proposed scheme as unrealistic, saying: “The demand for handing over prisoners and bodies within 72 hours is theoretical and not feasible under current conditions.”
He urged that “the United States should look positively toward the future of the Palestinian people.”
National Consensus on Gaza Governance
Regarding Gaza’s future governance, Abu Marzouk declared: “We have reached a national consensus on transferring Gaza’s management to independent technocrats. The Palestinian Authority will serve as this administrative body.”
The leader stressed that defining Palestine’s future is a national matter that cannot be decided by Hamas alone.
“We have agreed with Egypt’s regional and international framework addressing peace and future prospects,” he said.
Denying Terrorism Label for Hamas
Dismissing parts of Trump’s terminology in his plan targeting Hamas as terrorism, abu Marzouk stated clearly: ”Hamas is a national liberation movement. The definition of ‘terrorism’ presented in this proposal does not apply to us.”
He reiterated that while they agree broadly with core elements of the initiative, its implementation requires negotiation.
The Future of Resistance Weapons
The senior official also commented on what will happen to armed resistance tools post-agreement: “We will hand over weapons to any future Palestinian government. Whoever governs Gaza will hold those arms.” p>
