Lebanon Suspends Cultural Institution Affiliated with Hezbollah
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency, Lebanon’s Prime Minister nawaf Salam wrote on his X account that during today’s cabinet meeting, after reviewing a request from the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to dissolve the “Lebanese Art Association – Resalat,” which had called for a gathering in the al-Rouche district on September 25 (marking the anniversary of former Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s martyrdom), the goverment decided to suspend its activities temporarily until administrative and judicial investigations are completed.
Salam noted that in the government’s statement, after hearing various views at the cabinet session, there was sufficient constitutional majority to proceed with dissolving this association.
The Prime Minister added that according to the report from the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, this association committed several violations including breaching its scope of activity and internal statutes, violating laws related to public property-especially by blocking public roads-and abusing permits issued by Beirut’s governor.
Salam explained that this decision aims to balance maintaining public order with respecting freedom of association guaranteed by Lebanon’s constitution and international treaties.
The Lebanese Prime Minister justified this cabinet action by stating that government commitment to freedom of associations does not contradict administrative measures necessary for preserving order and public interest.
He concluded his post saying that based on these grounds, the government decided to suspend “Resalat” association’s legal license until investigations at both the Ministry of Interior and Lebanon’s Supreme Judicial Council are finalized.
