Orbán Issues Stark Warning to Zelensky
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized that his country is not obligated to back Ukraine’s EU membership, and Kyiv will not compel Budapest to change its position.
Responding to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks in a message on the social media platform X, Orbán wrote: ”Hungary has no moral obligation to support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.”
He stressed, “No country has ever secured EU membership through threats or intimidation, and this will not happen now.”
orbán recalled that “the EU treaty leaves no room for ambiguity: members decide on membership unanimously.”
He added, “The people of Hungary have made their decision. They unanimously rejected Ukraine’s EU accession in a referendum. If you want this changed, launching a media campaign against Hungary is probably not the best way to make friends.”
