Uruguay’s Broad Front Decides to Join Palestine Support March

Uruguay’s Broad Front coalition has decided to join a rally in⁣ support of Palestine, according to the country’s newspaper ⁤El País.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing El País, Uruguay’s ruling left-wing coalition, the Broad Front, has opted to participate in a pro-Palestine march. The event is scheduled for ⁤tomorrow, October 9th, starting at 6:30 p.m. on ⁣one of⁣ Montevideo’s main ⁢streets.

Fernando Pereira,⁢ leader of the ‍Broad front, emphasized the importance of assembling large crowds during‌ a press‍ interview. He stated‍ that the⁤ Broad Front is‌ a⁢ powerful‍ social actor in Uruguay with meaningful mobilization capabilities. “From our perspective,” Pereira said, “what is happening in Palestine amounts to genocide adn⁢ warrants a ⁤response from us as well⁢ as from many countries⁤ worldwide condemning Benjamin ⁣Netanyahu’s⁤ government actions.”

Pereira also noted that social activists are working to establish humanitarian ⁤corridors for aid delivery to Gaza. ⁢”The tragedy ‍unfolding there cannot be‍ ignored by Uruguayan society or by the ⁣Broad Front,” he added.

He further⁢ explained that the Broad Front’s National ⁣Policy Table issued a statement condemning what it called Netanyahu government-led genocide. The statement calls for an immediate humanitarian corridor allowing entry of food and⁣ medicine.

The⁢ coalition expressed strong support for hundreds of activists‍ attempting to break Gaza’s ⁣blockade-especially ⁢endorsing the global Freedom Flotilla initiative-and condemned‍ the illegal ‌detention of Uruguayan nationals in international ‍waters. The Broad Front ‍also demanded an immediate ceasefire alongside respect for ⁤human rights⁤ and ⁤international law.

The statement reaffirmed commitment ‌toward promoting a sustainable peace solution based ‍on two ⁢states within borders‍ agreed upon ‌in 1967. It urged Uruguay’s government to continue backing⁣ international efforts aimed at⁤ reaching this ‌essential⁤ resolution.

Pereira concluded by⁣ pointing out that⁣ political opposition parties have either remained silent or‌ voiced conflicting views regarding this issue; however, ‍he said his party will not request any⁤ change in governmental rhetoric on it.
