European Parliament Passes Anti-Russian Resolution Emphasizing Downing Aerial Threats

European Parliament representatives approved their anti-Russian resolution on downing aerial threats and aiding Ukraine⁢ with 469 votes in favor.

According to Mehr News Agency citing the European Parliament website,Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) ⁣have called for a‌ unified response from⁣ the European Union against what they describe as Russia’s alleged hybrid warfare threats.

The resolution, adopted Thursday, sharply condemns Russia’s “reckless and provocative actions” violating ‍the airspace of EU and NATO member states Poland, ⁣Estonia,‌ Latvia, Lithuania, and ⁢Romania.

In ‍part⁣ of the resolution, MEPs denounce deliberate drone attacks targeting ‌critical infrastructure in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. These acts are described‍ as part of “a systematic Russian military and hybrid warfare campaign ‌against the‍ EU” and ⁤its member states. Moscow is held fully responsible for incidents within ‌Polish, Estonian, and Romanian airspace. The parliamentarians welcome initiatives enabling the EU and its ⁤members to ⁣coordinate “unified, measured responses to all airspace violations,” including ⁢downing aerial threats. They endorse proposals‌ such as an EU drone defense‍ barrier along ‍with⁢ surveillance ‌schemes on its ‍eastern flank⁣ while emphasizing thorough coverage for all members facing direct security challenges along its southern border.

The⁣ resolution demands that the EU demonstrate firm ⁢resolve by swiftly retaliating against any third country ⁣attempting to infringe upon member states’ sovereignty. MEPs ⁢also urge both the Council and‍ European Commission to⁢ strengthen sanctions’⁢ effectiveness on ‌Russia ‌to decisively⁢ undermine Moscow’s ability to continue its war against Ukraine. Punitive measures should extend to all countries facilitating Russian operations. Further⁤ support is expressed for sanctions‍ targeting Chinese⁤ entities supplying dual-use goods and essential military components used⁢ in manufacturing⁢ drones ‍and missiles.

The parliament calls for enhanced defense cooperation‌ with Ukraine-notably regarding drone technology progress and countermeasures-including industrial‌ collaboration reinforcement.

The text also urges lawmakers to accelerate finalizing the European Defence Industrial Development Program (EDIDP). Together with Europe’s Security Investment Instrument (ESII),this legal framework should provide financial resources supporting Ukraine’s fight against unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)⁤ threats.

The⁣ resolution passed with 469 votes in favor, 97 against, and 38 abstentions.
