7.8-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes South America; Tsunami Warning Issued
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern region of South America.
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Reuters reported that the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert on Friday following a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Drake Passage, a waterway between the southern tip of South America and Antarctica.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the earthquake’s depth at 10 kilometers.
Following this event, Chile’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOA) also issued a tsunami advisory for its Antarctic territory and urged coastal residents to evacuate vulnerable areas.
