Eastern Russia Shaken Again
The german Geological Survey reported that a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the eastern coast of Kamchatka in Russia’s Far East, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters.
The agency stated that the earthquake’s epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers. No further details about the incident have been released so far.
Last week, this center recorded another earthquake measuring 5.3 in magnitude in the same area. Since late July,Kamchatka has experienced numerous seismic events.
On July 30, the region encountered its strongest recent quake. The Russian Academy of Sciences’ research branch reported that this tremor near Kamchatka’s coastline registered a powerful magnitude of 8.5.
The center emphasized that such an earthquake is considered rare and extraordinary. CNN also noted that this event was the strongest recorded worldwide as 2011.
