Suicide Attack on Training Camp in Pakistan Kills at Least 7 Soldiers
An armed attack on a police training camp in northwest Pakistan left at least seven security forces killed and six militants dead, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing the Associated Press.
Officials reported that the incident resulted in intense clashes and gunfire exchange between police and militants, lasting several hours. The suicide attack took place at the Pakistan Police training Center in Ratta Kulachi, located in the Dera Ismail Khan district.
Police stated that the assailants used heavy weapons and attempted to breach the camp after detonating a vehicle packed with explosives near its entrance.
Sajjad Ahmed, chief of police for Dera Ismail Khan district, said that following the initial blast, attackers managed to enter the complex.Approximately 200 recruits and trainers were present during the assault. In addition to seven officers killed,13 others were wounded.
The militant group Tehrik-i-Taliban initially claimed responsibility for the attack but later issued a statement denying involvement.
Pakistan Army spokesperson ahmad Sharif Chaddary stated yesterday that “since 2021 terrorism has increased significantly, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province along Afghanistan’s border.”
He added that by September 15 this year, Pakistani security forces had conducted over 10,000 operations resulting in 970 militants killed along with 311 soldiers and 73 police officers lost.
